People often start by picking a vehicle they like the look of and work backwards. It is usually faster to answer three questions first.
How many people, and how much luggage?
Seat count is the easy part. Luggage is where trips go wrong. A two-door Jeep seats four but will not swallow four people's week-long bags. If you are close to the limit on either, size up.
Is St. John on the plan?
If you intend to take the car ferry, you need a qualifying four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive class. Ask us to confirm eligibility for the specific class when you book — it depends on the vehicle, not just the badge.
Where are you staying?
A hillside villa with a steep driveway argues for more ground clearance. A downtown hotel with tight parking argues for something compact. Tell us where you are staying and we will tell you what tends to work.
Rough guide
- Two people, light bags: a compact SUV, or a two-door Jeep if you want the fun version.
- Family of four: a midsize SUV or a four-door Wrangler.
- Six or seven people: a three-row class such as the Highlander or Durango.
- Beach gear and coolers every day: a four-door SUV with a proper cargo area.
One thing to know: you reserve a vehicle class, not a specific unit. Make, model, colour, trim and features may vary, and a comparable vehicle in the same class may be substituted. We cannot promise a particular colour of Jeep — but we can make sure the vehicle fits your group and your plans.
