Questions we answer every day.
The practical stuff: what to bring, how deposits work, whether you can take the car to St. John, and what happens if your flight runs late.
Renting a vehicle
A valid driver's licence and a qualifying card in the renter's name. The name on the card must match the name on the licence. The main driver and any additional drivers need to be present at pickup.
The standard minimum age is 25. Drivers aged 23 and 24 may be accepted if they carry full personal automobile insurance coverage and pay an additional daily surcharge. Call the office to confirm before you book.
Car seats are available for an additional charge per seat, per rental. U.S. Virgin Islands law requires a child restraint for children five and under. Request car seats when you reserve so we can have one ready.
Yes. An additional driver fee applies per day. A spouse may be added without the fee. All drivers must be present at pickup with a valid licence.
A late fee may apply. If you are running behind, call the office — it is usually easy to sort out if we know in advance.
We cannot guarantee a specific colour. You reserve a vehicle class, and we assign an available vehicle from that class at pickup.
Payment & deposits
Mastercard, Visa and Discover. A security hold is placed on the card at pickup. Call the office for the current hold amount.
Debit cards are accepted when the name matches your driver's licence, you carry full personal automobile insurance coverage, and a deposit larger than the rental total can be held. Note that your bank may take up to about a week to release the deposit after you return the vehicle.
Active duty and veteran military receive an additional 5% discount with military ID. The eligible person must be the main driver and present a qualifying major credit card.
Insurance
Discount Car Rental does not currently offer a collision damage waiver. Renters may use qualifying personal automobile insurance with full coverage. Check with your own insurer, and with your credit card company, about coverage in the U.S. Virgin Islands before you travel.
Airport pickup
Yes, during regular business hours. Once you have collected your luggage at Cyril E. King Airport, call the office and we will send a driver.
After-hours airport pickup can be arranged in advance for an additional charge. Contact the office once your reservation is made so we can plan for your arrival. After-hours pickup is not free.
Call or email the office as soon as you know. If your new arrival falls outside business hours, after-hours arrangements need to be coordinated in advance and an additional charge may apply.
We are located at 72 Contant, close to Cyril E. King Airport. Call us once you have your bags and we will come and get you.
St. John
Qualifying four-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive vehicles may be taken to St. John on the car ferry. Eligibility depends on the rental class, so confirm your specific vehicle with the office when you book.
Driving here
Call Discount Car Rental first. Every vehicle carries a spare tire and jack, and after-hours tow company information is kept in the glove compartment.
Traffic drives on the LEFT in the U.S. Virgin Islands, but the vehicles are left-hand drive like on the mainland. It feels odd for about ten minutes and then it clicks. Take the first few turns slowly.
Reservations & cancellation
Cancel at least 3 days before your arrival and there is no charge. Cancellations inside 3 days are charged one day of rental.
